No doubt you have been in a room or a lobby or even a hallway with some signage.  Consider the modern airport which quite frequently features not only signage but artwork.  Think of some restaurants where artwork adorns the walls.  Subways, public buildings, bus stations and corporate lobbies come to mind.  There are a number of places we encounter where wall graphics provide us with viewing pleasure or information.

Now think of your own place of business or worship or education, like a school, church or museum.  Think about what you want to do with all that unused wall space.  Is there a message or perhaps a feeling that you wish to convey?  Do you want playful or professional?  Great quotes or founder’s quotes can inspire the current future generations to action or focus on the mission.  Can wall graphics be a vehicle for setting the appropriate mood as music does in a movie soundtrack?

If you think yes, then you can do that, too.

You can do that with color, with words, with graphics, with photos, with darn near anything these days!

You can enhance it with direct lighting or indirect lighting or even light boxes.  The type of lighting one uses can also affect the feeling or message conveyed and not just the color perception.  A subdued effect might call for indirect lighting; while bright overhead lights might convey a fully awake or aware feeling to boldly present a message.  Light boxes might be constructed to vary the light intensity depending upon the time of day.

Got a seasonal message?  Consider signs that can be swapped in and out of light box arrangements or simple frames.

Do you have a message that requires words or phrases to convey?  Or can you get the message across to a visitor by way of pictures or a combination of both?  You can even make your message look more like traditional oil on canvas paintings if that is what you desire.  You can use a variety of materials (even cloth) to obtain a dull patina versus a high gloss or textured look.  Strip the message down to just the words by placing dimensional letters directly onto a wall and let the wall or pre-applied graphics be the background.

Modern sign making technology will allow you quite a bit of flexibility to design the display to meet your needs.  Spend some time to decide just what you’d like to do with your space, then talk to a sign maker when considering your design and see how many options you really have in order to turn that empty space into your masterpiece.  Your sign maker can help with the graphic design and help you to transform your dream into a reality of which you can be proud.

Tell your story, convey your message – dress up those walls!
